Two Saturdays ago,  our family went down South to Tagaytay for a little retreat. It was much-needed, alright. I was in the middle of soul-searching and Stache-refurbishing when my mom made the plans. It’s our fourth time in the place and the sunshine and flowers never get old. The moment we arrived, I saw this little fella beside the gate. After we parked our car, I immediately ran back to pet the dog. I can’t help it!

Both my parents are vegan (I joined the club -ish) so this is paradise for them. Well, even for me. This is paradise for everyone, even the non-veggie eaters. They serve unlimited greens, fruits, bread, dips, pasta, and their signature dalandan juice. They squeeze it fresh everyday!

After our more than satisfying lunch, we checked in to our room and to our surprise, they gave us a cottage with three (THREE!) queen-size beds, 1 single bed, 2 baths and a living room. Since there were only three of us, we can pretty much take one bed each but we didn’t because a.) it’s my parents’ anniversary so they should share a bed and b.) one of the queen-size beds were in a separate room, complete with a closet. God knows what is in there. A monster, maybe. Or Narnia if you’re lucky.

Short story: my dad is not exactly tech-savvy. He was trying to take photos of me and my mom and he kept complaining that what he sees in the viewfinder is blurred. He even got a little agitated. Turns out he wasn’t wearing his glasses.

Sonya’s Garden does not only offer bed and breakfast but they also have a spa! So we went down there after we got settled and we had the most amazing massage ever. I think I fell asleep for a good 20 minutes. They even served dalandan basil tea (this place is bustling with dalandan), I think, after the massage.
We went to Carlo’s Pizza for dinner (not too special) and grabbed a cup of coffee before heading back to the cottage. I brought a few books and magazines with me but I fell asleep reading Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore (I want to talk about this more but it’s for another blog entry) on my iPad. I’m sorry.

Next day’s breakfast ruined my streak. They served bacon and I wasn’t able to help myself so I dug in. Deep. I solemnly swore that I won’t eat any meat products from that day forward. Along with the whole breakfast set, they even gave each table flowers! They definitely know how to brighten someone’s day. Ours smelled like butter which was kind of confusing for me at that time because I’m pretty sure that butter is made of milk, not flowers (it was 7AM, forgive me).

So that’s our weekend.  Initially, I was planning on getting some work done during the getaway, but seeing that we only stayed there overnight, it couldn’t just happen so I gave it up. It did refresh me to get back to work when we get home. But guess what I did. Yep, I watched the new Suits.
