2013

It’s been a while since I wrote here. I guess I’ve been having the good ol’ Virgo New Year blues of redoing everything and just having a clean slate and trust me, I love clean slates and the past year gave me the cleanest one yet.

As some of you probably know, one of the biggest changes in my life happened last year. For the past half a decade, I’ve been living my life the same way. School, relationship, work and bouncing around project to project. I was contented, but not happy. Come second quarter of 2013, everything changed and I have never been happier. It was easily one of the best things that happened to my life. Things just escalated from that point and the second half of my year sparkled*~

Here are some of my favorite moments of 2013:

1. Globe Tatt Awards win! I can still remember everything about that day. How Ellie came over to get ready at my house, how we got confused by the number of utensils on the table, how we panicked when Raymond called Stache to receive the award, how immaculate the dessert was, how ran in Greenbelt barefoot with the award in my hand. It is easily one of the coolest things that ever happened to me.

2. Bob Ong interview on Facebook. Not a lot of people can say that they have talked to their childhood hero and definitely, only a handful of people can say that they have talked to one of the most controversial and mysterious writer in Philippine literature.

3. Singapore and Indonesia trip. It was my first time out of the country and I think this was a good first experience! I’m amazed by everything Singapore has: the food, the transportation, the parks. It’s everything I hope the Philippines could be one day and I couldn’t help but get inspired. I also saw a panda for the first time here!

4. New home in Pico. One of the few perks of the aforementioned best-thing-that-ever-happened-in-my-life is a new home in Pico. It’s secluded and it’s everything I wished it would be. I can’t thank my parents enough for this.

5. Cebu-Bohol trip with the best friend. This was the time when I fully appreciated beaches and hotel lobbies. I used to be so scared of the ocean because of the unknown and unseen creatures down under but when I saw the beauty of Panglao, I was hooked.

6. Overnight stay at Sonya’s with my parents.I have to say, it was one of the most relaxing weekends I have had in ages. I was able to finish one book and just chill in a huge room good for 10 people.
7. Katipunan BaHAIYANihan and DesigningPH. It was so good to work with my fellow Wanderrgirls again. It’s always such a pleasure to work with this group and you just can’t help but absorb all the positive and productive energy emitting from their schmexy, little bodies. I love them to bits and I really can’t ask for a better girl group of wonder.

8. Share Movement workshop and talks in San Beda and DLSU. This year was a good practice year for public speaking. I was invited by my dear friends Tienne, Coco and Elisa to share a bit of what I know about online magazines and blogging. Talking in front of a crowd is definitely a humbling experience and I aim to get better this year at this!

9. Stache Christmas party. And really all the other times I spent working and being with these people. We celebrated our third year anniversary last year and I really couldn’t believe that time flew by this fast. Three years ago, we were just seven kids who were trying to learn how to operate a magazine on our own and now, we’re 40 in the group (complete with international staffers) and an award under our belt. It’s such an honor to work with this group and I really couldn’t ask for a more talented and dedicated bunch. I love them to bits and I am more than happy to have them in my life.

10. Launching The Wrap Project. We have been doing our gift-giving parties for about 10 years now and we decided to finally make it official this year. We’re extremely happy with the turnout (8 Christmas parties in 5 communities!) and we hope that things get better next year!

11. Lerler moments with my family. Including the random carpark hangouts, the intentional stakeouts, pigouts and sleepovers. This year proved that I have the best cousins in the world and that we have each other’s backs no matter what. It’s amazing how all of us grew up together and now we’re about to enter a new chapter in our lives. I wonder who’s getting married first.

12. All the food that we ate and the roads we traveled. No more, no less. This was the best-est-est-est thing that ever happened in my life that it made me realize how happy life can be. Thank YOU.
